FreshChoice Leamington supports Hospice Waikato
On Behalf of Hospice we would like to thank the FreshChoice Community Fund for their grant made towards our travel costs made by nurses travelling to Cambridge for home visits. This will help ensure our focus of “making every day count” while providing comfort and quality of life regardless of age, ethnicity, culture or gender” is continued free of charge.
Hospice Waikato nurses, provide essential palliative care for people who have a terminal illness and supporting them and their families. They also ensure that patients and their family receive not only physical but also psycho-social support. Hospice Waikato also provides patients access to specialised equipment so they can be best cared in the comfort of their own home. We acknowledge how important it is for a patient to feel comfortable at home and the importance of family members involved. Hospice nurses support the patient and the family at home as much as they can, reducing stress on family members and enabling the patient to stay at home and be cared, helping them remain as independent as possible.
Hospice Waikato covers the second largest region for Hospice services in New Zealand and the demand for Hospice Waikato services across the region continues to increase, putting additional demand on services and funding. Last year Hospice Waikato looked after over 900 patients and their family/Whanau.
