FreshChoice Community Grant goes to the Marakura Sailing Club
There are four young sailors who have been selected from the Marakura Sailing Club to travel to the NZ Open Bic Cup in Auckland. This is an initiative of Sir Russell Coutts to encourage young sailors from the Otago/Southland region to develop a passion for sailing.
Sailing is an ideal sport for Te Anau children, being situated right on the largest lake in the South Island!
Harriette Hamilton who represents the Marakura Sailing Club says, “Sailing is an ideal sport for Te Anau children with the lake so close by. It does not rely on numbers to make up a team and can be for all age groups together enjoying the joys of sailing and the competition”.
“This competition includes two days of tuition. Accommodation is supplied by Sir Russell families. Fundraising activities include a meal at Kingsgate Hotel where raffles will undergo a silent auction on Saturday 17th June, watching the first America’s Cup Race”.
