Tuna Tataki

A simple and tasty appetizer!
This Tuna Tataki Recipe is infused with delicious citrus flavours.
Tataki relates to the traditional Japanese method of preparing meat or fish by lightly searing over a high heat, marinating and slicing thinly.
Ingredients
- 400g fresh sashimi grade Yellowfin or Albacore tuna
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil for searing tuna
Sauce
- 4 Tbsp Tamari soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp mirin
- 2 tsp chilli garlic sauce
- 1 tsp Sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
- 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
- 1 Tbsp fresh lime juice
Salad
- Toasted black and white sesame seeds
- 2 spring onions finely cut
- 1/2 cucumber finely sliced
- 2 cups mixed salad greens - such as rocket/mizuna
- Fresh mushrooms (we've used Shitake)
Method
- Cut tuna into long pieces about 5cm in diameter.
- Sear the tuna in a hot pan with the sesame oil for 1 min on all sides.
- Plunge into ice cold water to stop cooking. Remove from water and pat dry.
- Slice thinly.
- Mix all sauce ingredients together.
- Plate the tuna and drizzle with sauce, sesame seeds and spring onions.
