Tuna Tataki
A simple and tasty appetizer!

This Tuna Tataki Recipe is infused with delicious citrus flavours.

Tataki relates to the traditional Japanese method of preparing meat or fish by lightly searing over a high heat, marinating and slicing thinly. 

Ingredients

  • 400g fresh sashimi grade Yellowfin or Albacore tuna
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil for searing tuna
Sauce
  • 4 Tbsp Tamari soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp mirin
  • 2 tsp chilli garlic sauce
  • 1 tsp Sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • 1 Tbsp fresh lime juice
Salad
  • Toasted black and white sesame seeds
  • 2 spring onions finely cut
  • 1/2 cucumber finely sliced
  • 2 cups mixed salad greens - such as rocket/mizuna
  • Fresh mushrooms (we've used Shitake)

Method

  1. Cut tuna into long pieces about 5cm in diameter.
  2. Sear the tuna in a hot pan with the sesame oil for 1 min on all sides.
  3. Plunge into ice cold water to stop cooking. Remove from water and pat dry.
  4. Slice thinly.
  5. Mix all sauce ingredients together.
  6. Plate the tuna and drizzle with sauce, sesame seeds and spring onions.
